President of the Delhi High Court Bar Association - Kirti Uppal, was attacked on 9th January, while Vikas Pahwa, senior member of the executive committee was attacked on 22nd January.

The decision to abstain from work was taken in an emergent meeting of the executive committee convened today.

It is stated that the two attacks were pre-mediated and deliberate acts of conspiracy, as both the counsel are appearing for a colleague at the High Court. It is also stated that in both the cases, the modus operandi of the attack was the same i.e. use of a highly inflammable substance.

FIRs in both incidents have been registered. The Commissioner of Police has given an assurance that strict action will be taken and that the guilty will be brought to book.

The resolution passed today states,

“In view of the aforesaid, the Executive Committee hereby unanimously condemns the dastardly attack on the Legal Profession and the Majesty of this Institution, which cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.”

Apprehensions have also been raised that the attack was aimed at browbeating the Senior Counsel, in order to dissuade them from appearing in the case of their fellow advocate.
