Both unfortunate incidents were reported from Gujarat State.

It's very saddening to observe that these crimes were committed close to Gandhi Jayanti in Gandhi Ji's home State-Gujarat.

Gandhi ji had fought for dignity & pride for Dalits & gave them a new name of Harijan-a child of God.

A 21 years old Dalit man was beaten to death allegedly by men who belonged to the upper-caste Patel community, for attending a Garba event, in Gujarat’s Anand District in the early hours of Saturday.

According to the Police, Jayesh Solanki who's a resident of Vankarvas area in Bhadraniya village, had gone to see  Navaratri festivities near the local temple when he was allegedly approached by Sanjay Patel of the same village.

Sanjay alias Bhimo allegedly made some derogatory remarks about his caste & abused him.

As the argument turned violent, Sanjay along with Chintan Patel; Rutvik Patel; Jignesh Patel; Dhaval Patel; Vickey Patel; Ripen Patel & Dipesh Patel all residents of the same village, reportedly beat him up.

A report by PTI said that Jayesh was accompanied by his cousin Prakash Solanki & 2 other fellow Dalits.

An officer of Bhadaran Police Station told PTI that the complaint in the case said that the Patel youths told the Dalits that they “don't have any right to watch Garba.”

This incident took place around 4 AM. Jayesh, whose head was reportedly banged against a wall suffered multiple injuries & fell unconscious. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital & was declared brought dead. Deputy Superintendent of Police, J. N. Desai, who's investigating the case said “all 8 accused have been arrested & further investigation is underway.”

The 8 accused have been booked under Section 143 (unlawful assembly), Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 302 (murder) & Section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of Indian Penal Code & under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

In another unrelated incident, Two Dalit men of a village near Gandhinagar, Gujarat were allegedly thrashed by members of Rajput community for "sporting a moustache" in 2 separate incidents, Police said today.

These incidents occurred on 25th & 29th September at Limbodara village in Gandhinagar district.

In the 29th September incident, Krunal Maheria (aged 30), a law student, was allegedly beaten up by 1 Bharatsinh Vaghela.

In his complaint to the Kalol taluka Police, Maheria claimed that Vaghela assaulted him for sporting a moustache.

Today, Maheria said "When I was visiting my friend on Friday night, Vaghela & some others intercepted me & verbally abused me. Vaghela told me that I can't become a Rajput by just sporting a moustache; when I ignored him, Vaghela beat me up with a stick."

He returned back to his home today after undergoing treatment at the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital.

Based on his complaint, the Police had lodged an FIR against Vaghela under IPC Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) & under the SC & ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989 a Kalol taluka Police official said.
