Just a few days after the Supreme Court of India allowed the second Italian Marine to return home, a news has come hat Italy had used local church in Kerala and paid financial compensation to the families of the two murdered fishermen.

This has been disclosed by a former Indian Ambassador to Italy, Sh. K.P. Fabian. He has claimed  that families of victims who were shot dead allegedly by the two Italian marines in February 2012 have been paid adequate Money.

Salvatore Girone and his colleague Massimiliano Latorre allegedly shot dead two fishermen off the coast of Kerala.

Met priests

Diplomat Fabian disclosed that Mr. Mistura met with several Kerala priests in Kollam and other Kerala Church Authorities during the spring of 2012 to ’13 and made attempt to reach out to the family of the two killed fishermen.

“After several such meetings with the family, the families were persuaded to receive 30 lakh each as compensation. However, the families had responded demanding one crore rupees each as tit matched the compensation that was paid as compensation during settling the mishap between a Chinese vessel and a fishing boat belonging to local fishermen near Kerala coast in April 2013,” Mr. Fabian said.

The Chinese vessel had at that time hit a Indian craft and nearly killed the fishermen who then later on claimed compensation for the damages caused  to them in the incident.

Subsequent to the said agreement of the payment was made in 2012, Mr. Fabian said.

The Italian authorities had sent a group of its officials, along with two Christian Priests who had performed religious rites at the time of handing over of the cash amount of Rs.30 Lakhs each as settlement.
