November 8,2018:

Paisley Park Enterprises Inc. filed an application to Trademark the Musician Prince Rogers Nelson’s favourite colour Purple to remind people of the legacy he has left behind. The application was filed in early October 2018, with the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Paisley Park Enterprises was founded in the memory of late American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and filmmaker Prince Rogers Nelson, fondly known as Prince. Prince was known for his eccentric stage performances, exorbitant fashion sense and most importantly his wide vocal range.

He would often wear purple clothes and due to his fondness, he soon became popular as “The Purple One”. Moreover, his album, “The Purple Rain” became one of his biggest hit.

Seeing the legacy and significance that this colour held in his life, his estate decided to Trademark it.

Troy Carter, an entertainment adviser to Prince's estate said that the colour purple was synonymous with who Prince was and will always be associated with him.

Certain laws, however, prohibit a single colour to be used as a Trademark; nevertheless, it can be allowed in specific uses. The estate is aiming to gain exclusive rights to the purple shades similar to “Love Symbol #2.” If the estate is successful in getting the Trademark, it would be able to prohibit the use of the particular shade in other film and musical performances.
