November 19,2018:

Square Enix filed a lawsuit against the game studio, Dorado Games over the usage of word 'Conflict' in their game series.

Recently Dorado Games had applied a trademark applicarion to protect their game 'Conflict of Nations: World War 3', an online game which released earlier this year, on which Square Enix showed its disappointment.

However, as soon as Square Enix became aware of the trademark application filed by Dorado Games they opposed the same, stating that the Dorado game 'Conflict of Nations: World War 3' cannot use the work Conflict as it will confuse the consumer as Square Enix has published six games under the Conflict franchise. Since the past 16 years, the company has been using this trademark to promote its games.

In a letter provided to Dorado Games, the lawyer of Square Enix mentioned that: "The applicant's mark consists of 3 words: Conflict of Nations," and "The opponent's mark in its entirety contained within the applicant's mark, occupying the dominant position."

The Managing director of Dorado Games, Nick Porsche, showed his displeasure over the complaint and said that "Having been in the games industry for 20 years this type of behaviour is exactly the reason we decided to do our own thing - without publishers, based in an island nation with its own jurisdiction," also "It's really ridiculous to which degree the majors are trying to crush anyone within their space while preventing smaller companies from effectively marketing their products online - even when there is no contextual overlap whatsoever."
