The Arunachal NGOs and Entrepreneurs Forum (ANGOEF), the forum which involves in skill development programmes and providing opportunities to the women, is planning to obtain a protection for Arunachal Pradesh’s Tribal Dress.

The regional forum requested the State Government to protect the tribal dress designs of Arunachal Pradesh which carries their traditional value.

On November 9, the forum members met Chief Minister Pema Khandu and submitted a memorandum focusing on the need for protecting the tribal dress design. According to them, it is to safeguard the interests and business of the locals involved in the sector. This intellectual property protection will restrict and avoid outsiders from trading in local handloom and handicraft products.

It was stated in the written notice given by the forum to the State Government that: “To safeguard our local weavers, artisans and entrepreneurs, particularly those working on traditional designs on handloom and handicrafts sector, the government of Arunachal Pradesh should pass a bill to ban traders from outside the state in trading such items,”.

“This will help prevent the local cottage based industries from collapsing and draining out the state’s economy," they added
