We cannot fail the people’s legitimate expectations, said CJI Khehar.

With around 60,000 cases pending in the Apex Court, CJI JS Khehar firmly put in place a queue system for dispensation of  justice on Friday by simply rejecting the requests for out of turn hearings.

Heading a 2 judge bench, CJI Khehar took exception to advocates mentioning pension arrears, land acquisition and service related disputes for early hearing.

The bench said that it hurts us when lawyers mention these issues for an early hearing as civil liberty matters shouldn’t be pushed back  to give  out of turn hearing to such cases, everyone must come in a queue. People have faith in court as they expect equity from us.

The CJI said that they can’t fail the people’s legitimate expectations, while turning down most of the requests for early hearing but keeping eyes & ears open for the matters which require the Supreme Court’s urgent intervention.
