A one-day round table titled “Sexuality and Harassment”, jointly organized by the Centre for Studies in Gender and Sexuality and Partners for Law in Development. The round table will be held on December 1 at the India International Centre in New Delhi from 10.30 am to 7.30 pm.This round table is being organised in order to engage rigorously with the issue of sexual harassment, but by asking questions that seem to get less air time in public discourse. For instance, we want to dwell on the complexities rather than the certainties of sexuality. Why and how and whom do we desire? Is sexual expression culturally constrained? Why and how has harassment come to be associated with sexuality? What role does the law play in adjudicating desire?
These conversations will be spread across three panels — Psyche, Agency, and Law — in which we will have discussions among psychoanalytical practitioners, students, mental health activists, legal experts and researchers. In active conversation with the audience, the speakers will look at the many dimensions involved in sexual desire, attraction, boundary setting, agency and transgression. A fourth panel, Final Thoughts, will think about all the three aspects together in relation to sexuality and harassment.
