CUSAT

Categories: Conferences & Seminars International Opportunities

Child rights are specialized human rights that apply to all human beings below the age of 18. United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Chid (UNCRC) sets a new standard for rights of child globally. The purpose of the UNHRC is to outline the basic human rights that should be afforded to children.UNICEF considers child protection as the prevention of or responding to the incidence of abuse, exploitation, violence and neglect of children. Protection also allows children to have access to their other rights of survival, development, growth and participation. The protection of rights of child is important and essential so that minimum entitlements and freedoms can be afforded to every child regardless of race, origin, colour, gender, language, wealth or disabilities.

India is one of the countries who give utmost importance to the rights of child. Therefore India has adopted several policies and also incorporated several provisions in various legislations to protect the child. Though there are various legislative provisions, the ambit of protection available to a child in India is still debatable. Since India is a country where the numbers of underprivileged children in India is very high it is necessary to identify the scope of existing legislations for the protection of rights of children.

It is in this context School of Legal Studies is organizing this International Conference on Child Rights. This Conference attempts to examine the various challenging issues and concerns in the application of existing laws relating to child rights and to suggest the way forward for a better living environment for children everywhere.
